Making a Clutch, Another Happy Mail Project

Clutch made from a fabric collage.

If you saw my last post, I introduced you to a very talented textile artist. She sent me this beautiful fabric collage in happy mail. I immediately knew I wanted to create a clutch/purse from it. You can follow this fabric artist here: https://www.instagram.com/kitschychic/. Here’s a picture of the collage:

The piece seemed to fold naturally into a purse shape. I stitched the sides of the purse. This collage was already edge finished with an orangish satin cord. I show how to do this in my last post.

I used a large ( size 4) sew-on snap fastener for the closure.

This batik fabric complimented the color in the collage and I used it it make the purses handle. I wanted to wear it cross-body so I went with a 56” strap. I decided on fabric tubes filled with a cord for my strap. My Fasturns makes this step quick and easy.

1/4” grommets were added to the top of the clutch/purse. This tool was included with the grommets:

Almost done! The strap easily fits into the grommets. I tried it on and tied a knot for the desired length.
